ENAS AD 2.20  Local aerodrome regulations

1  Local regulations
1.1 All traffic to, from or within Svalbard are subject to prior permission REF AD 2 ENSB AD 2.20 (Svalbard Lufthavn, Longyear).

ENAS AD is open only for traffic with prior agreement. For landing ENAS permission is required from Kings Bay Ltd TEL: (+47) 79 02 72 00 or via e-mail: booking@kingsbay.no

2  Prohibition zone for aircraft
2.1 A prohibition zone for airplane and helicopters is established round Ny-Ålesund airport. The zone is established to avoid unnecessary disturbance of research and of nature. The chart can be obtained from Kings Bay Ltd via TEL or email.
3  Damaging laser
3.1 A laser, being used for research purposes, is located within the prohibition zone, REF previous paragraph, in PSN 785525N 0115521E. It can be damaging to overfly the laser when it is in use.
3.2 If the corridor for airplane and helicopter is used, follow the corridor closely and stay south of the main built-up area.

Note: If necessary to deviate from corridor, avoid overflying of laser.

3.3 For known traffic, the laser will be switched off 10 MIN before estimated departure from Longyearbyen and on 30 MIN after departure from Ny-Ålesund.
4  Launching of weather balloons
4.1 Weather balloons are launched daily from a research station next to the airstrip. Launches are coordinated with ATS.
5  Engines testing area
5.1 Engine testing beyond idle power on THR RWY 12 only. PPR from AFIS.

1  Radio communication failure
1.1 If experiencing radio communication failure when flying VFR in TIZ:
  1. Squawk 7600,

  2. Proceed to the south tip of the island Blomstrand (Ny-London) and hold at 1000 FT, left turns,

  3. Flash LDG LGT and watch TWR for visual signal.

ENAS AD 2.23  Additional Information

1  Approach and runway lights
1.1 The light intensity for APCH, THR and RWY edge LGT are adjustable in 5 levels, PLASI is adjustable in 4 levels.
2  Maritime emergency channel
2.1 Within AFIS HR of SER the ATS unit monitors the maritime emergency channel (CH16/156.800 MHZ).
3  Special requirements for aircraft operators performing commercial transportation into Ny-Ålesund airport
3.1 The aircraft operator shall stipulate the Commanders route and aerodrome competence qualification as prescribed in EASA AMC1 ORO.FC.105 and as a minimum fulfil the requirements for a Category C aerodrome.
4  Meteorologic balloon activity
4.1 MET-balloon will be released on a daily basis between 1045 – 1115 (0945 – 1015) from research station east of RWY. Balloon may drift within a radius of 162 NM from launch site. Launch will be coordinated with ATS.
